Questions, answered
Everything you want to know about how we work.
How we cook, where our ingredients come from, how to order, and what to expect.
The Food
Is everything really made from scratch?
Yes. Every sauce, dressing, pasta and bread item is made in our kitchen. Our whole spices come from trusted specialist suppliers and are blended in-house. If the Your Kitchen Co name is on it, it was made here.
Do you use preservatives?
We do not add preservatives to our pasta, sauces, dressings, spice blends or fresh items. Some pantry ingredients, such as certain coconut milks, may contain trace amounts. We are always looking for better alternatives and flag anything relevant on the packaging.
What kind of food do you make?
Our daily menu includes fresh pasta and signature pasta dishes, salads made fresh each morning, poke bowls, sandwiches and paninis, burgers, fitness meals, ramen bowls, and homemade sauces, dressings, marinades and spice blends.
What time is the food prepared?
Our team arrives at 6am every morning. By 8:30am, salads are dressed, pasta is cooked, bread is out of the oven, and everything is sealed and ready. You are eating food that was made that morning, not yesterday or three days ago.
Is the food nutritionally balanced?
Yes, deliberately so. Every meal is thoughtfully built with quality protein, wholesome carbohydrates, fresh vegetables and healthy fats. The goal is food that fuels your day and keeps you energised, focused and satisfied.
Do you cater for specific dietary requirements?
We can accommodate most requirements with advance notice. Please contact us before placing your order and we will confirm what is possible for your specific needs. Dietary requirements are handled case by case so we can get them right.
Ingredients & Sourcing
Where does your flour come from?
We import premium Italian 00 flour from a trusted producer with generations of milling expertise. It is the flour professional chefs choose for pasta, pizza dough and artisan bread. Better flour means better texture, better flavour and steadier energy release.
Where do you source your vegetables?
Local first, always. We source from local growers who harvest in small batches for freshness and flavour. Seasonality guides our menu because produce tastes better when it is naturally at its best. When local supply is not available, we carefully select the highest-quality alternatives.
Where does your meat come from?
We work with trusted suppliers who share our commitment to quality, consistency and responsible farming practices. Every cut is selected to deliver flavour, tenderness and quality you can taste.
What about your spices?
We source whole spices from trusted specialist suppliers and blend many of our own spice mixes in-house. Every recipe is carefully balanced to create bold, authentic flavours. Nothing comes from a generic pre-mixed factory blend.
Do you bake your own bread?
Yes. We bake our own bread from scratch in our Johannesburg kitchen. Each loaf and roll is mixed, shaped and baked on-site so it reaches the table fresh from our ovens.
What do you make from scratch in the kitchen every day?
Every day, our kitchen prepares fresh bread, fresh pasta rolled on-site, signature sauces, salad dressings, chilli preparations, curry spice blends, marinades and seasonings.
Ordering
How do I order?
For individual meals, use the online ordering option when it becomes available. For catering, office meals or bulk enquiries, send us the details through the catering enquiry form and we will contact you directly.
Why do I need to order 48 hours in advance?
Everything is made fresh on the day of delivery and prepared to order. The 48-hour window lets us source the right ingredients, prepare everything properly from scratch and ensure your food is ready on time.
What days do you deliver?
Monday to Friday. We do not deliver on weekends. Our kitchen team works a Monday-to-Friday schedule, which we believe is essential to the quality and consistency of what they produce.
What time does food arrive?
Delivery is completed before 5pm. If you have a specific time window that matters, please note it when ordering and we will do our best to accommodate it.
Where do you deliver?
We currently deliver across Johannesburg. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, get in touch before ordering and we will confirm.
Can I order for my office?
Yes. Office catering is one of our core services. We deliver individual boxed meals or group orders to offices across Johannesburg. Whether you are feeding a team of five or a floor of fifty, we can structure an order to suit.
Can my office team also order dinner to take home?
Yes. If your office already orders from us, individual team members can add a dinner order through the same platform for delivery before 5pm.
Can I change or cancel an order?
Because food is prepared fresh to your specific order, changes and cancellations need to be made well in advance of the 48-hour cut-off. Contact us as soon as possible if something changes and we will always try to help where we can.
Delivery & Packaging
How is the food packaged?
Our containers are imported from Denmark. They are fully recyclable, oven-safe up to 200°C and microwavable. We chose them because good food deserves packaging that works for storage, reheating and the environment.
Can I heat the food in the oven?
Yes. Our containers are oven-safe up to 200°C. Remove the plastic lid before placing the container in the oven. For the microwave, the lid can stay on.
What about the plastic film on some containers?
Certain containers use a sealed plastic film for food safety. Without it, some foods can spoil in ways you would not detect by sight or smell. We are actively working on a more sustainable solution.
How long does the food keep?
Everything is blast-chilled after cooking and sealed below 4°C. Sandwiches keep well for a few days in the fridge. Bowls and pasta reheat well in the microwave or oven. If you are not eating it the same day, keep it refrigerated and follow the timeframe on the label.
Can I reheat the food?
Yes. Microwave with the lid on for 1–2 minutes depending on the portion. For the oven, remove the lid and heat at 180–200°C for 8–12 minutes. Most dishes reheat very well.
